Chittagong Port, which is the premier sea port of Bangladesh handling bulk of exports and imports, usually witnesses a slowdown in container delivery during the Ramadan on account of increased imports centring the holy occasion, thereby creating congestion.
Now to avert this, the port authority has devised a new mechanism.
According to media reports, the CPA or the Chittagong Port Authority has decided to raise the store rent to keep container delivery normal in Ramadan even as the CPA has issued a notice to clearing and forwarding agents, importers, shipping agents association, Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry and various business bodies and port stakeholders in this regard.
Reports further added, at present, importers pay US$ 24 per day for a 20-feet container 20 days after the unloading from a ship even if businesses will have to count fourfold store rent from the 21st day of unloading imported goods from a ship following the CPA move to hike the store rent.
