
The coronavirus pandemic has claimed yet another life of a renowned business leader in Bangladesh after the Chairman of Jamuna Group, Nurul Islam Babul, breathed his last on Monday afternoon, claimed media reports.
The 74-year-old Chairman of the Jamuna Group had tested positive for COVID-19 on 14 June, following which he was undergoing treatment at Dhaka’s Evercare Hospital, where a 10-member medical board was reportedly formed to oversee his treatment.
It may be mentioned here that Jamuna Group is one of the largest conglomerates in Bangladesh with diverse business interests including textile (Jamuna Knitting & Dyeing Ltd., Jamuna Denims Ltd., Jamuna Spinning Mills Ltd., Shameem Spinning Mills Ltd., Shameem Composite Mills Ltd.), chemical, media (Jamuna TV, Jugantor), leather (Pegasus Leathers Ltd.), entertainment, consumer products, etc.
Jamuna Future Park, which happens to be the largest shopping mall in the country, is also owned by the Jamuna Group.
Meanwhile, many prominent personalities in Bangladesh including industry leaders, politicians, heads of trade bodies, etc., have condoled the passing away of Nurul Islam Babul.
