Bangladesh could soon sign the much-awaited Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with India to expand trade and investment with the neighbouring country after ministries concerned in Bangladesh, reportedly, agreed to go ahead with signing the same.
According to reports, a decision to this end was reached at a recent inter-ministerial meeting chaired by the Senior Secretary of Commerce Ministry Tapan Kanti Ghosh, and attended by officials of Labour, Foreign, Commerce and Home Affairs ministries and other Government departments and agencies.
Bangladesh is all set to join the league of developing nations in 2026; this CEPA is a part of the Bangladesh Government’s effort to sign trade deals with major trading partners to retain duty benefits following the LDC transition.
