Maintaining that documentation and clarity of use of the package is the sole way to make the stimulus fruitful, speakers at a recent programme called for transparency in use of RMG stimulus loan.
Taking part at the launch of a new project of Naripokkho, which is one of the leading women’s rights organisation in Bangladesh, representatives of non-governmental organisations (both global and local) stated it need to be ensured that entrepreneurs, who took RMG stimulus loan, spend the same to pay workers’ wages.
As such, they said, accountability, clarifying and documenting how the fund is spent, is necessary.
Speaking at the event, Research Director at the Center for Policy Dialogue (CPD), Dr. Khondokar Golam Moazzem, reportedly underlined that factory owners taking the stimulus loan and still laying off workers was not desirable.
Again, they deducted workers’ salary as well as proposed to re-join at lower wages, reportedly said the CPD Research Director while adding that many workers who lost their jobs in the process still do not get any work by their respective companies.
