Even as Bangladesh Government has hiked gas and power tariffs, the business leaders of its port city of Chittagong has reportedly expressed concern over the same.
Speaking to the media, President of Chittagong Chamber and Commerce and Industry (CCCI) Mahbubul Alam while maintaining the productivity of the industrial sector is dependent on a smooth supply of power and gas has reportedly said the price hike of gas and power in industrial and commercial sectors will create a negative impression.
As a result the local products will also lose their competitiveness in the global market he reportedly said even as the First Vice President of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) Sayed Nurul Islam on his part reportedly maintained prices of gas and power are increasing globally and thus it is normal the prices of gas and power will rise in Bangladesh slowly.
“But it is unfortunate that the gas and power prices in industrial and commercial sectors have been increased suddenly,” reportedly maintained Sayed Nurul Islam while adding due to this the production cost will increase.
