
BGMEA President Faruque Hassan urged Germany-based Otto Group further to explore business opportunities with garment suppliers in Bangladesh. He emphasised Bangladesh’s potential as a dependable and cost-effective source for a wide range of high-end items.
A delegation from Otto Group, the renowned retail company, met with the BGMEA chief to discuss the exploration of new avenues to increase Otto’s sourcing from Bangladesh, particularly for high-value apparel products, along with other industry-related issues.
Faruque Hassan emphasised the need for strengthening partnerships with Otto’s Bangladeshi suppliers to facilitate the design and manufacture of high-end apparel items.
The Otto delegation included Sergio Bucher Rodriguez, a member of the conglomerate’s executive board; Heidi Sabina Stevens, chief executive officer at Otto International Hong Kong Ltd; Weronika Sosulska, key accounts manager, Bonprix; Raksha Nanerjee, key accounts manager, Witt Group; and Mehtap Mir, human resources chief at Otto’s Bangladesh office.
Newly elected Director of BGMEA for 2024-2026 term Mesbah Uddin Khan and Chair of BGMEA Standing Committee on Trade Fair Mohammad Kamal Uddin were also present at the meeting.
Faruque Hassan gave insights into Bangladesh’s garment sector throughout the discussions, underlining the achievements made in worker welfare, environmental sustainability, and workplace safety.
He brought attention to the industry’s continuous efforts to diversify its product offerings, emphasising non-cotton and high-end markets in addition to innovation in product development and process optimisation.
