To ensure smooth and quick digitised services for its members, the apex garment makers’ body in Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), has initiated a move to prepare a biometric database on the factory owners.
According to reports, the BGMEA issued a circular in this direction recently which underlined that biometric data on the factory owners would be collected at five booths at the BGMEA’s regional office in Chittagong, BGMEA headquarters in Dhaka, Uttara Club, Banani Club and the Gulshan Club while calling upon all its members to submit their biometric data (including fingerprint, signature and photograph) to the association between 21 January and 25 February 2021.
As per the trade body, factory owners’ biometric data would be necessary for renewal of membership, availing assistance from any stimulus package announced by the Government, online UD processing, cash incentive, visa service and transfer of ownership even as BGMEA President, Dr. Rubana Huq, reportedly, stated biometric data would be mandatory to avail all types of services from the BGMEA.
