
Even as the World Bank and the Bangladesh Government jointly undertake modernisation work of land ports in Bangladesh, which would, reportedly, cost around Taka 2,500 crore, President of the apex garment makers’ body of BGMEA is, reportedly, planning to call upon the Country Director of World Bank with the request to expedite the work of the ports.
Media reports maintained this adding BGMEA President Faruque Hassan recently also met the Chairman of the Bangladesh Land Port Authority (BLPA) and urged the BLPA to increase capacity and efficiency of all ports in Bangladesh so as to meet the future demands of expanding trade and commerce.
Requesting the BLPA to simplify export-import related services and procedures at the ports for expediting trade activities, Faruque Hassan, reportedly, further maintained expansion of infrastructure along with services improvement at the land ports was essential to facilitate more favourable trade between Bangladesh and India as well as with the other neighbouring countries.
