The Sammilita Parishad, a panel contesting the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) board of directors’ elections, on 16 March announced its election manifesto at a press conference held in capital Dhaka.
Addressing the media, panel leader Faruque Hassan has, reportedly, underlined that the panel will prioritise market and product diversification, and innovation by adopting latest technology to help the readymade garment sector recover from the fallouts of the coronavirus pandemic while also adding the Sammilita Parishad would also work closely with the European Union (EU) and the Government to retain duty-free market access in the region till 2031.
Faruque Hassan further underlined that if the BGMEA members vote for Sammilita Parishad to lead the sector, it would focus on product and market diversification to help the industry recover from COVID-19 pandemic and went on to add, “I have close relationships with foreign diplomats, ambassadors abroad and Government officials, who are also close friends of mine; I will use these relationships as a tool to improve business connectivity.”
It may be mentioned here that all the candidates nominated by the Forum, another panel which is contesting the upcoming BGMEA election — Sammilita Parishad and Forum are contesting the biennial elections of BGMEA to be held on 4 April — have also, reportedly,pledged to work selflessly for the RMG industry and its advancement.
The Forum candidates, reportedly, took oath in this direction, at an event titled, ‘Forum Panel Introduction’, held in the capital recently.
