Even as new cases of coronavirus, reportedly, continue to increase in Bangladesh amidst second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, Forum, one of the panels contesting the all-important election of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), scheduled to be held on 4 April (Sunday), has, reportedly, vowed to give top priority towards ensuring the garment workers’ safety.
Media reports maintained this citing Forum leader ABM Shamsuddin.
Underlining if apparel workers are protected, the industry will also be safe, the Forum leader, reportedly, said, “If elected, we will work to ensure workers’ safety as safety comes first, and then comes business…”
ABM Shamsuddin, who is also a former Vice-President of the BGMEA and Chairman of Hannan Group, further stated that health safety involves costs.
