
Leading coalition of the Bangladesh’s garments manufacturers and exporters and one of the panels, which is contesting the upcoming election of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) for the 2021-2023 term, Forum, announced its election manifesto on 30 March (Tuesday).
In a press conference held in capital Dhaka, the announcement in this regard was made, which was attended by Forum panel leader ABM Shamsuddin, current BGMEA President Dr. Rubana Huq and other industry leaders.
The Forum’s core manifesto, as underlined in media reports, has 13 parts, which include Reducing Operational Cost & Business Facilitation, Market Expansion, Skill & Innovation, Image, LDC Graduation, SME, Sick Industry and Exit Policy, Labour Welfare and Cleaner and Efficient BGMEA, Technological Efficiency, Protection and Efficiency, Sustainability and SDG, and Price and Buyer’s Accountability.
Reports further maintained that the remaining 12 parts are divided into 3 sections, of which the first section describes the panel’s (Forum) achievement, second addresses activities in progress and the last discusses future plans.
Underlining that the BGMEA has many achievements in the last two years and many more in the progress, Forum stated that in the next couple of years, the garment industry will face numerous obstacles and problems, during which the trade body requires an effective board composed of trustworthy, dutiful, hardworking and experienced individuals, even as it vowed to review the director’s performance every three months in the Cleaner & Efficient BGMEA segment, if elected apart from seeking to create a sustainable industry, while also consider reorganising the BUFT trustee council even as a discussion group composed of broad industry will be also be created.
