BEPZA Economic Zones, situated in Mirsarai, Chattogram, and the Export Processing Zones (EPZs) of Bangladesh have extended an invitation to South Korean investors to increase their investment.
BEPZA Executive Chairman Major General Abul Kalam Md. Ziaur Rahman made this request as the keynote speaker at a seminar titled Investment Opportunities in the Export Processing Zones and BEPZA Economic Zone of Bangladesh that was co-organised by the Korean Community in Bangladesh, Kido Industrial Co. Ltd., and Giant BD Company Ltd. in Seoul, the capital city of South Korea.
According to a press release, special guests Park Young Sik, the ambassador of South Korea to Bangladesh, and Md. Delwar Hossain, the ambassador of Bangladesh to South Korea, attended the seminar.
About 60 participants representing various South Korean investment organisations/industrial groups attended the seminar.
The executive chairman of BEPZA gave a thorough overview of Bangladesh’s current welcoming investment environment during the seminar, with a focus on foreign direct investment (FDI).
The Executive Chairman of BEPZA emphasised that the current Government has been offering investors incentives and facilities, and that Bangladesh has been gradually liberalising its rules regarding foreign investment.
Speaking of BEPZA’s expansion plan, the Executive Chairman stated that in addition to the eight EPZs that are now in operation, BEPZA is building an Economic Zone in Mirsharai, Chattogram. This zone has already drawn 28 industries in its construction stage, some of which have begun to produce.
Additionally, plans are underway to develop three more EPZs, which should be open to investors by the end of 2025.
Bangladesh’s amazing success story in the garment sector was emphasised by Park Young Sik, the ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Bangladesh, who mentioned the longstanding close ties between Bangladesh and South Korea.
He briefed the South Korean investors on investment opportunities in Bangladesh, emphasising the country’s plan to create Smart Bangladesh, its steady advancement in all sectors, including infrastructure, and its graduation from LDC status.
Md. Delwar Hossain, the ambassador of Bangladesh to South Korea, urged Korean investors to increase their investment in Bangladesh by outlining the many measures the government has taken to make the country more investment-friendly.
During the welcoming address, Jang Hee Park, the Chairman of KIDO Bangladesh and a South Korean investor in Adamjee EPZ, expressed gratitude to BEPZA for the assistance in building up industries at the Bangladeshi EPZ.
He exhorted Korean investors to put money into Bangladesh’s EPZ to profit from it.
