
After almost a month’s halt owing to the coal shortage amid the dollar crisis in the country that had hampered fuel imports, the Rampal power plant at Bagerhat is set to resume production.
This is as per media reports which cited the concerned officials in this regard.
Speaking to the media, Deputy General Manager of Bangladesh-India Friendship Power Company Limited, maintained one of the two 660 MW units will resume electricity production from 15 February after a ship carrying 30,000 tonnes of coal arrived in Rampal recently while another one with 50,000 tonnes is scheduled to dock on 18th February.
It may be mentioned here the Rampal Power Station has been established by the Bangladesh India Friendship Power Company Limited (BIFPCL) which is a 50/50 joint venture between India’s state-owned National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) and Bangladesh’s Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB).
