
On the back of strong rebound of apparel shipments, Bangladesh registered the second-highest single month earnings from exports in January after merchandise exports from the country surged 41.13 per cent year-on-year (Y-o-Y) to US $ 4.85 billion.
Media reports maintained this adding as per the data from the country’s Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), in the first seven months of the current fiscal year, shipments increased 30.34 per cent Y-o-Y to US $ 29.54 billion even as readymade garments brought home US $ 4.09 billion in January this year, up 42.5 per cent from what was US $ 2.87 billion posted in the same month a year ago.
Further, apparel shipments increased 30.3 per cent to US $ 23.98 billion during the July-January period even as of the sum, US $ 13.27 billion came from knitwear exports (up 32.89 per cent Y-o-Y) and US $ 10.71 billion from woven shipments (an increase of 27.23 per cent).
Meanwhile speaking to the media, President of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) Faruque Hassan, reportedly, maintained this big jump in garment shipments is likely to continue.
“…we have had more work orders this year compared to last year,” further added the BGMEA President.
