The stimulus loan disbursement for the cottage, micro, small and medium enterprises (CMSMEs) in Bangladesh, may very well miss the December deadline as they cannot avail the same as fast as they had expected due to its slow disbursement process even if the country’s central bank (Bangladesh Bank) has set a loan disbursement target of Taka 200 billion in its second round to the priority sector of the Government by December next.
Media reports maintained this citing the statistics of the Bangladesh Bank, as per which, the disbursement target may be missed as only 2.82 per cent loan was disbursed during the July-August period amongst 2,390 firms of CMSMEs.
Meanwhile, speaking to the media, Managing Director and CEO of Mutual Trust Bank Syed Mahbubur Rahman, reportedly, stated that as many of the CMSMEs finally cannot fulfil the conditions of banks to receive the loan, the disbursement of the remaining volume by December may not be possible even as he, reportedly, added that efforts need to be taken on this front as the Bangladesh Bank’s CGS has no impact on loan disbursement yet as its conditions are too tough for small entrepreneurs to meet.
