The year 2022 seem to have ended on not a very happy note for the Bangladesh garment sector after its earnings from exports in last month of 2022 declined by 4.92 per cent year-on-year to US $ 3.27 billion compared to US $3.44 billion in apparel export earning in December 2021.
Reports claimed this citing the provisional data from the apex garment makers’ body of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), which was based on the earnings between 1 December and 28 December of 2022,
The BGMEA reportedly blamed fall in work orders from global retailers and brands stemming from the Russia-Ukraine war as well as rising inflation for this decline in apparel export earnings.
