The Bangladesh Tariff Commission (BTC) has recently prepared priority list of 200 exportable products to seek duty-free and quota-free (DFQF) access to Gulf Cooperation Council market in which various readymade garment products figure prominently, as per media reports.
In readymade garments, overcoat, dress, jacket, blazer, suit, trousers, shirt, t-shirt, undergarment, jersey, pullover, baby garments, hat and other headgear, etc., has reportedly been included.
The BTC has reportedly also sought opinion of the stakeholders on the list prepared which will be finalised after accommodating their recommendations.
Two list containing names of around 200 products including frozen fish, nuts, spices, vegetables, cereal, potato, jute products, prepared foods, confectionary items, juice, water, non-alcoholic beverage, household articles and toilet articles of plastics, various types of leather bags, footwear, sports footwear, etc., have reportedly been prepared by the BTC based on export capacity of Bangladesh, the import demand and future potential for export to the GCC countries, which includes Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, United Arab Emirates and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and future potential for export to the countries, officials said.
As per reports, the Commerce Ministry may send a final list merging the two lists or two separate ones to the GCC secretariat with requesting DFQF market access for Bangladesh.
