
The European Union is amongst Bangladesh’s major apparel export strongholds and the recent reports of fresh cases of COVID-19 have emerged as a concern for the country even as reports underlined the Government is all set to meet with the stakeholders to assess and review the export market and possible impact due to the fresh spread of coronavirus in the EU countries again.
Interacting with the media, a top official of Bangladesh’s Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), reportedly, maintained they will very soon meet leaders of the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA), BGMEA and Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA), apart from other stakeholders including the Bangladesh Leather Goods Manufacturers and Exporters Association officials and the Bangladesh Ceramic Manufacturers and Exporters Association office bearers to review the existing situation even as Faruque Hassan, who is President of the BGMEA, has also, reportedly, expressed concerns on this issue.
As per recent reports in the Western media, the COVID-19 situation has deteriorated in some major EU countries like France, Germany, Netherlands and Poland as well as UK, which has now ceased to be member of the EU, even as Netherlands has, reportedly, returned to a partial lockdown recently owing to the same.
