
The Adamjee Economic Processing Zone (EPZ), which was established in the place which once housed the Adamjee Jute Mills in 2006 and mainly produces readymade garments, apparel accessories, sweaters, knitting and textiles accessories, leather and leather shoes, apart from cover of cars, metallic goods, jewelleries, chemical and fertilisers, etc., is drawing significant investments.
According to media reports, following pragmatic steps by the Government and the EPZ authorities, a large number of investors including foreign investors — investors from countries like Canada, Spain, Germany, Hong Kong, Great Britain, South Korea, India, Japan, Mauritius, Singapore, China, Malaysia, British Virgin Islands, Netherland, USA, Kuwait, Ukraine and Romania have set up and running industries in the EPZ — have, reportedly, increased their investments at the Adamjee EPZ at Siddhirganj of Narayanganj even as it is creating employment opportunities as well.
The activities of export and import of the EPZ (Adamjee EPZ) have been brought under automation while also ensuring strict security of the zone; a labour-friendly environment has been prevailing in Adamjee EPZ, reportedly, maintained General Manager (Public Relations) of Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) Nazma Binte Alamgir while adding that as per the Government’s policy to develop socio-economic condition of the country, living standard, alleviation poverty and flourish the industries, the decision to set up EPZs was taken even as reports suggest that local and foreign entrepreneurs were still waiting to establish several more industries in the EPZ with an estimated investment of US $ 45.45 million and an employment opportunity for 2,084 people.
