At the Petrapole land port, which is on the Indian side, on the other side of the Benapole border of Bangladesh, around 5,000 goods-laden trucks are said to be waiting to enter the country (Bangladesh).
Media reports claimed this while underlining that this has greatly affected trade between the two countries and has already majorly impacted revenue collection even as it underlined that traders, including importers and C&F agents, have reduced imports through Benapole port due to long delays in importing goods while adding that seven to eight hundred truckloads of goods are imported from India every day through Benapole port, which at present, has, reportedly, come down to around 300-400.
Meanwhile, speaking to the media, General Secretary of the Benapole Customs C&F agent Employees Association, Sajedur Rahman, reportedly, held that there is a terrible traffic jam on the other side of Benapole even as he went on to add that about 5,000 trucks with imported goods are waiting on the other side of the port and, it now takes about 15 days to enter Benapole port from Petrapole’s Kalitala parking lot, as a result of which C&F agents and importers are suffering and import costs are rising while the Director of the India-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce Matiar Rahman, reportedly, said that a strong syndicate has been formed at the Indian port of Petrapole (on the other side of Benapole to import goods by land).
