Hundreds of workers of the Dragon Fashions Limited on Sunday confined two owners of the factory – Kazi Moniruzzaman and Mostafa Golam Kuddus – for 8 hours at the Shrama Bhaban (located in capital’s Paltan area) demanding outstanding wages and other benefits.
According to media reports, the two owners had come to the Shrama Bhaban to attend a tripartite meeting of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), factory owners and the workers on Sunday.
However, when the owner duo allegedly refused to pay the workers their outstanding salaries, the workers did not allow them to leave the Shrama Bhaban between 12pm and 8pm.
As per reports, earlier on 24 October, the factory owners reportedly underlined that arrears would be cleared within 15 November but as there was allegedly not much progress in this regard, the tripartite meeting was convened on Sunday.
The next meeting in this regard to resolve the issue would take place on 23 November at the Ministry of Labour and Employment, maintained media reports citing BGMEA Director, Rezwan Selim.
