Workers from Roar Fashion Limited in Bhaluka have staged a protest outside the BGMEA building in Uttara, Dhaka, demanding the payment of unpaid wages and compensation. The demonstration began on Sunday, 24th March, when approximately 200 workers gathered in front of the building and continued their sit-in overnight, escalating their protest on Monday morning by blocking the main entrance and preventing BGMEA officials from entering.
The protest stems from the factory’s closure in January due to financial difficulties. While workers received Taka 7 million for their wages in November and December, salaries for January, along with layoff compensation, remain outstanding. Roar Fashion Limited, established in 2017, currently employs 1,376 workers.
As of 8:30 pm on Monday, the workers remained at the site, continuing their demonstration. Turag Police Station Officer-in-Charge Rahat Khan reported that police have been deployed to ensure security, and so far, no untoward incidents have occurred during the protest.
