
The Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) has initiated the disbursement of overdue salary and additional benefits to the employees of M/s. Scandex Knitwear Ltd. (Unit 2), a now-closed facility in Adamjee EPZ.
In a programme organised by Adamjee EPZ recently, cheques for outstanding payments were handed over to 100 workers, marking the resolution of their pending dues.
Moshiuddin Bin Mesbah, the executive director of Adamjee EPZ, personally facilitated the distribution of cheques for arrear salary and other benefits during the event.
It was announced that the remaining workers would receive their overdue payments in a phased manner.
Scandex Knitwear Ltd., had been operational in Adamjee EPZ since 2009.
Unfortunately, the factory faced operational challenges following the demise of its Managing Director in 2022.
Subsequently, the management declared a layoff, eventually leading to the factory’s closure.
A total of 977 workers and employees, including 617 laid-off workers and 360 individuals unpaid during various periods, had outstanding salaries, as per reports.
