
To empower the women workers engaged in the Bangladesh apparel industry, the United States launched a new project recently.
Media reports maintained this adding USAID or the US Agency for International Development, has partnered with PVH Corp. and CARE Bangladesh to launch the project.
A press communiqué issued in this direction maintained with US Government support, CARE Bangladesh will implement the new five-year US$5 million project even if under the project, professional development opportunities for over 100,000 women working in the sector would be expanded by equipping them with market-oriented leadership skills while the project will also strengthen women’s advocacy and negotiation skills within the workplace and in their communities to advance their rights and help them overcome gender-related barriers and the impacts of the Coronavirus pandemic.
Amongst others, the launch event was, reportedly, attended by USAID Mission Director Kathryn D Stevens, Labour and Employment Ministry Secretary Md. Ehsan-E-Elahi Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association Director Barrister Shehrin Salam Oishee and leaders from PVH Corp.
