
The US Green Building Council (USGBC) has awarded Platinum Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification for existing building design to MT Sweaters Limited, a 100 per cent export-oriented manufacturing company situated in Bangladesh. With a total of 82 points, the project has obtained platinum certification under the v4.1 Operations and Maintenance Existing Building rating system.
At a ceremonial event at a hotel in the capital, the certificate was formally given to the organization’s chief executive officer. The CEO and Managing Director, Dr. Md. Mizanur Rahman Apu, received the certificate from USGBC-GBCI Associate Director (Market Development), Santanu Dutta Gupta, at the function.
In response to receiving the certificate, Alhaj Dr. Md. Mizanur Rahman Apu stated, “It is with great pride and excitement we celebrate a monumental achievement of Platinum LEED certification by MT Sweaters Limited. This recognition marks a significant milestone in our journey towards sustainability and environmental stewardship.”
According to data from the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), Bangladesh now has 214 factories accredited by LEED for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), of which 80 have achieved Platinum level and 120 have achieved Gold. This number includes MT Sweaters. Eight RMG plants obtained LEED certification in 2024, four of which were Platinum and four of which were Gold.
