
The minimum wage board concluded its recommendations on Thursday and recommended Taka 10,000 as the starting salary for workers in the cotton textile industry.
Taka 5,710 is the current minimum which was set in 2018.
The board met separately with the owners and employees of a few textile businesses around the country before preparing the draft recommendations.
According to representatives of the minimum wages board, the board approved its draft proposals for sector workers on Thursday after considering feedback from owners and employees.
All board members finalised the draft minimum salaries, according to Raisha Afroz, the secretary of the minimum wages board.
The wage recommendation for a worker in grade 10, which is the lowest grade, is Taka 10,000. This amount includes Taka 5,000 for basic pay, Taka 3,000 for house rent for the upazila town, Taka 750 for medical benefits, Taka 400 for travel expenses, and Taka 850 for food allowance.
The minimum wage for the workers in the district town has been proposed at Taka 10,350.
The amount includes Taka 5,000 as basic pay, 65 per cent of the basic pay Taka 3,250 as house rent, Taka 750 as medical allowance, Taka 500 as travel allowance, and Taka 850 as food allowance.
Minimum monthly pay for the workers in the divisional town has been proposed at Taka 10, 700, including Taka 5,000 as basic pay, 70 per cent of the basic pay Taka 3,500 as house rent, Taka 750 as medical allowance, Taka 600 as travel allowance and Taka 850 as food allowance.
The wage board secretary refused to provide the suggested pay scale for employees in nine additional grades.
The workers’ representative to the wage board, Shahjahan Saju, stated that they had finalised the wage proposals and the amount of all grades would be made public through a gazette notification soon.
