
The 5-year-long data collection project Mapped in Bangladesh or MiB — MiB is the first-ever research initiative of its kind in Bangladesh for export-oriented RMG industry — has compiled and mapped 3,630 export-oriented apparel factories’ data in its database using the factory census method all across Bangladesh as of January 2022.
Media reports maintained this adding so far, they have conducted multiple researches using the factory database it obtained through digital mapping even if according to a recent publication by its researchers, MiB demonstrated that the male-to-female workers ratio in Bangladesh apparel sector is 42:58 as per analysed data of 2,565,761 workers from 3,212 export-oriented apparel units, while another survey (on the basis of responses from 2,334 factories communicated over phone in June 2020 using contacts in MiB database) revealed that the member factories of the trade bodies (BGMEA and BKMEA) were able to utilise 70.55 per cent of their production capacity, compared to 59.83 per cent by non-member RMG factories amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
Meanwhile, the MiB has, reportedly, underlined their objective is to provide accurate, credible and updated apparel factory information to all industry stakeholders by following a robust data verification and validation protocol.
