The Industrial Police (IP) urged readymade garment (RMG) and textile factories to pay their employees’ salaries and benefits prior to the commencement of the Eid-ul-Adha holidays as per the Government’s decision.
They urged companies to pay May wages before the Eid holidays and to distribute Eid bonuses at the start of June.
In addition, they asked the employees to act responsibly concerning their pay, benefits, and bonuses before Eid-ul-Fitr.
Speaking on Sunday at the IP headquarters in the capital at a view-exchange meeting with representatives of the RMG and textile industries, concerned Government directorates, and leaders from the concerned sectors was Md. Mahbubur Rahman, BPM(Bar), assistant IGP of Industrial Police.
He also said that if the manufacturers pay the wages and allowances of the workers on time, the law-and-order situation in the industrial sector will be normal and the highways will also be safe.
“The relevant organisations will take appropriate action against the owners of the factory units who stay abroad without paying the wages, bonuses and allowances to the workers on time,” he added.
He continued by saying that the industrial police have assessed the current state of salary payment to various firms and have cancelled all types of leave ahead of Eid. All members are carrying out their duties with professionalism and honesty.
Moreover, they also have identified factories that are likely to have problems with payment of wages and bonuses and determined the way forwards by discussing with the owners, police and administration.
The IP asked the owners and relevant authorities to decide on Eid holidays per an owners-employee agreement and to take appropriate action if any factory unit fails to pay.
The superintendents of police from each zone of the Industrial Police gave a general overview of the industrial factories during the conference.
Bepza, DIFE, and DoL leaders pledged to work together with the Industrial Police to make sure that workers receive their salaries and benefits before Eid.
