
Trade union leaders in Bangladesh face opposition and intimidation from the industry even if the concerned Government authorities make the process complex, underlined a global trade union leader adding trade union registration in Bangladesh remains a daunting task still.
Speaking to the media, IndustriAll Global Union General Secretary Atle Høie reportedly said IndustriAll’s affiliates informed that there are lots of rejections due to opposition not only from the industry but also from the Labour Ministry even if its affiliates, mostly in the readymade garment sector of Bangladesh, here have reportedly also disagreed with the Labour Ministry that the registration process has been made easy.
This the IndustriAll Global Union General Secretary underlined on his two-day visit to Dhaka recently, during which he reportedly met the IndustriAll Bangladesh Council affiliates members and discussed issues pertaining to minimum wage, insurance scheme, and International Labour Organization (ILO) roadmap and its progress.
