
Experts underlined the need to formulate a plan and take appropriate and effective steps to implement it to ensure eco-friendly development even as they highlighted that according to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the country cannot develop itself economically only and must advance environmentally and socially based on the green technology.
They came up with these observations participating at virtual discussion on ‘Building back a greener Bangladesh’.
Speaking at the event organised by the Policy Research Institute of Bangladesh in collaboration with the World Bank Group (WBG), the Managing Director of Apex Footwear, Syed Nasim Manzur maintained that both micro and macro policies need to come together for creating a green economy even as he stated that the 10 per cent special income tax rate applicable only for green buildings in apparel industry has borne good results and should be extended to all other sectors.
Participated amongst others by Country Manager of H&M Bangladesh Ziaur Rahman, former Governor of the Bangladesh Bank Atiur Rahman, Sarwar Jahan- former professor of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology and Syed Nasim Manzur, Managing Director of Apex Footwear, the programme was moderated by PRI Executive Director Ahsan H. Mansur while Eun Joo Yi, senior environment specialist at the WBG, presented a keynote paper.
