DyStar Group, a Germany-based solution provider to the textile industry, has announced that the company is going to phase out the usage of the Colour Index. The Colour Index lists manufactured colorants (pigments and dyes) commonly used by manufacturers and the textile industry to identify colorants. It is published jointly by the Society of Dyers & Colourists (SDC) and the American Association of Textile Chemists & Colorists (AATCC). The decision to phase it out was taken since the Index lists products based on general chemical structure. The listing however does not list environmental and ecology factors which are becoming increasingly important for product selection. As a consequence, it does not guarantee compliance with international regulations or place restrictions on potential contaminant substances, which can be an irksome issue for sellers and buyers.
