Workers from many garment factories and locals protested the death of a female worker in a traffic accident at Kunia Taragach in the Gazipur district.
Munira, an operator of a textile factory, was hit by a Gazipur City Corporation garbage truck at 8 a.m. and instantly died, according to witnesses quoted by Muhammad Kamal Hossain, the deputy police commissioner of the Gazipur Metropolitan Police.
Outraged by the accident, people and workers of various apparel companies blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway and vandalised several passing cars.
Later, they blocked off the highway with barriers to prevent cars from passing. However, the situation is now under control as the workers left the highway after police intervention, said police.
