
In less than two months, it’s the second time when minors have been rescued from the garment factories of Ludhiana. This time district task force against child labour rescued 14 minors – aged between 7-16 years, employed illegally at a jacket-manufacturing unit in Basti Jodhewal. The minors are from Nepal and Sarihi District in Bihar and are victims of human trafficking.
According to media reports, one of the youngest of the children, a seven-year-old boy, had been working at the factory for two years on a weekly wage of Rs. 50 for a 14-hour shift starting at 8:00 a.m.
An FIR has been registered under Section 370 and the relevant sections of Child Protection Act against the two owners of the factory.
