
Bangladesh’s apex garment makers’ body the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) on 24th April paid its tribute to those who lost their lives in the infamous Rana Plaza disaster, considered one of the worst industrial accidents.
To mark the 10th anniversary of the tragic incident, floral tributes were paid on the graves of those who perished in the Rana Plaza disaster at the Jurain graveyard in the capital Dhaka by the president of the trade body, Faruque Hassan, who was accompanied by BGMEA Vice-President Shahidullah Azim and other officials of the BGMEA.
After the event, the BGMEA President reportedly asserted the firm commitment of the apparel sector of the country towards carrying forward the accomplishments made on workplace safety, workers’ rights and environmental sustainability even as he added Bangladesh today has the highest number of green garment factories in the world with 195 factories already achieving the LEED certification from the USGBC.
