The BGMEA or Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association, which is the apex garment makers’ body in Bangladesh, has stressed on ensuring well-being of garment workers, improve their nutritional status and change poor dietary habits to boost individual as well as factory-level productivity and efficiency.
Taking part in a seminar on workforce nutrition organised by the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments (DIFE) in association with the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) recently, BGMEA President Faruque said the garment makers’ body has placed utmost importance on ensuring healthcare facilities for apparel workers.
The BGMEA chair further added it (BGMEA) runs a hospital in the port city of Chittagong for garment workers while also underlining it has been operating 12 health centres at different parts of capital Dhaka and Chittagong to provide basic healthcare facilities to apparel workers free of cost.
Secretary at the Labour and Employment Ministry M. Ehsan E-Elahi, reportedly, presided over the programme, which was attended by State Minister for Labour and Employment Begum Monnujan Sufian as the chief guest.
