
The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with BRAC University (BRAC U) related to the project titled ‘Digital Repository of RMG Workers’, which has been undertaken to develop a digital and credible database of the entire workforce of the Bangladesh’s readymade garment (RMG) sector.
Media reports maintained this adding Bangladesh apparel sector shares a history of almost four glorious decades, but comprehensive information on its employed workers was yet to be brought together and, being a labour-intensive industry and having the importance of the labour force to ensure sustainable growth, it is essential to have an accurate, complete and credible data repository of the entire workforce, and as such BGMEA and the BRAC University have stepped to collaborate on this joint project.
BGMEA President Faruque Hassan and Vice-Chancellor of BRAC University Professor Vincent Chang, were present at the signing ceremony that took place at the BGMEA office in capital Dhaka recently even as a statement issued in this direction underlined the digital repository can be utilised to formulate policies for the workers’ well-being while also design significant interventions in this regard while contributing to Digital Bangladesh Vision 2021.
