The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has published its second Sustainability Report, outlining environmental, social and governance-related disclosures for the country’s readymade garment (RMG) sector.
The report was formally launched on 12th January 2026 at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara by the association’s acting president, Selim Rahman, in the presence of senior office bearers and board members. This is the second such publication by BGMEA, following its first sustainability report released in 2020.
According to a press release, the report has been prepared in line with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) framework, a widely used international standard for sustainability reporting. The document presents sector-level data and information intended to reflect developments and ongoing changes within Bangladesh’s garment industry in the global context.
At the launch event, BGMEA representatives stated that the second report builds on the reporting process initiated in 2020 and seeks to provide a more structured account of sustainability-related practices and objectives within the sector. The acting president noted that the publication was intended to document the industry’s longer-term approach to transparency and sustainability-related disclosures.
Senior BGMEA officials indicated that the report aims to present sector data to international stakeholders, including buyers and partners, based on information submitted by member factories. They acknowledged the role of participating factories in providing the data used for the report.
The publication received financial support from the German development agency GIZ, while technical input was provided by Sassnex Limited to support report preparation. The report has been issued through BGMEA’s Responsible Business Hub.
BGMEA Senior Vice President Inamul Haq Khan, Vice President Md Rezwan Selim, Vice President (Finance) Mizanur Rahman, Vice President Md Shehab Udduza Chowdhury, Directors Shah Rayeed Chowdhury, Mohammad Abdus Salam, Sheikh Hossain Muhammad Mustafiz, Mohammad Sohel, and Chairman of BGMEA Standing Committee on Sustainable Energy Saifur Rahman (Shapu) were present, among others, at the event.
