
By signing Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) with 10 popular healthcare institutions including nine hospitals and one diagnostic centre, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has taken a significant step towards ensuring quality healthcare for its members, officials and their families.
Mahmud Hasan Khan, President of BGMEA, presided over the MoU signing ceremony held at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara in the presence of the Board of Directors and representatives from the participating healthcare organisations.
The institutions that have entered into a partnership with BGMEA include – Bangladesh Eye Hospital and Institute Ltd.; Labaid Group Ltd.; Dhaka Central International Medical College and Hospital; Popular Diagnostic Center Ltd.; LifePlus Bangladesh Ltd. (Digital Healthcare Platform); Labaid Cancer Hospital and Super Specialty Center; Samorita Hospital Ltd.; Praava Health Bangladesh Ltd.; United Healthcare Services Ltd.; United Hospital Ltd.; A vision for accessible healthcare.
President of BGMEA, Mahmud Hasan Khan, declared the association’s plan to build an advanced hospital in Gazipur/Ashulia region, with an aim to give affordable and high-quality healthcare services for garment workers. According to him, Bangladesh’s leading hospitals and diagnostic institutions would associate to manage and operate this specialised facility.
The primary driving force behind this initiative has been BGMEA Director Shah Rayeed Chowdhury, who described the healthcare partnership as a milestone towards ensuring better health and well-being for garment industry’s entrepreneurs and professionals.
He stressed that not only member welfare but also the sector’s increasing commitment to social sustainability and workforce resilience are reflected through providing greater access to reliable healthcare.
Industry analysts claim that in Bangladesh’s RMG sector, such welfare-driven collaborations can boost productivity, retention and brand reputation. Additionally, it enhances the industry’s sustainability and social compliance credentials, which are increasingly important to international customers when making sourcing decisions.
