A free Protobol Digital X-ray campaign has been launched at the BGMEA Health Centre in Uttara to enhance healthcare services for garment workers in Bangladesh.
The initiative forms part of the National TB Programme of Bangladesh, with financial support from BRAC and technical collaboration from icddr,b. It aims to enable early diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis and other lung-related diseases among the country’s apparel workforce.
The campaign was inaugurated by Inamul Khan Bablu, Senior Vice-President of BGMEA. The event was also attended by Kazi Mizanur Rahman, Director, BGMEA; Md Khair Mia, Chairman, Standing Committee on ILO and Labour Affairs; Abul Hossain, Co-Chairman, Standing Committee on TB and Dengue Control Cell; Helal Uddin Ahmed, Chairman, BGMEA Uttara Health Centre; and Murtaza Ali, Co-Chairman, Standing Committee on Health Care.
During the inauguration, Bablu reaffirmed BGMEA’s commitment to workers’ wellbeing and said that ensuring the health and safety of workers was essential to sustaining the growth of Bangladesh’s garment industry. He expressed appreciation for the collaboration among BRAC, icddr,b, and the National TB Programme, acknowledging their proactive efforts in supporting the healthcare initiative.
According to BGMEA, similar health campaigns are planned for other industrial zones to reinforce preventive healthcare among garment workers and to promote long-term workplace safety across the sector.
