A delegation from the Greener Garments Initiative (GGI) and SOLshare met with Vidiya Amrit Khan, Vice President of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), on 25th November 2025 at the association’s headquarters to explore potential collaboration aimed at accelerating decarbonisation in the country’s ready-made garment (RMG) industry.
GGI, an Energy Service Company (ESCO) established by SOLshare and Heartland (BESTSELLER) with support from OneTrueValue (OTV) and the ORE Fund, is working to scale clean energy and climate-smart solutions for garment manufacturing facilities across South Asia.
Discussions during the meeting focused on supporting the RMG industry’s long-term decarbonisation roadmap, expanding the adoption of sustainable energy solutions, and strengthening climate resilience across factory operations in Bangladesh.
During the engagement, Vidiya Amrit Khan reaffirmed BGMEA’s commitment to driving a low-carbon transition within the apparel sector. She emphasised that improving energy efficiency, increasing access to clean energy, and integrating decarbonisation practices at the factory level—particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises—were essential for protecting the global competitiveness and climate resilience of Bangladesh’s apparel industry.
BGMEA also expressed appreciation for the initiatives undertaken by GGI and SOLshare and indicated its interest in exploring collaborative pathways to support the sector’s low-carbon transformation and advance progress towards sustainable manufacturing goals.
The meeting underscores growing momentum among industry stakeholders to align Bangladesh’s RMG sector with global climate action priorities, especially as international buyers increasingly prioritise carbon reduction within their supply chains.
