
The apex garment makers’ body in Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has called upon the French Development Agency’s financial wing Proparco to provide small and medium enterprises (SMEs) In Bangladesh with low-cost funds and grants even as it underlined the SMEs often cannot avail regular financing schemes due to the various strings attached.
The BGMEA President, Faruque Hassan reportedly made this request after a delegation of Proparco — the Proparco delegation led by Reza Hassam Daya, deputy head of manufacturing, also included Nahema Lemarchand, Jean-Emile Loubet and Théodore Planes — called on him in Paris recently to discuss possible collaboration in supporting the sustainable development of Bangladesh’s RMG industry.
Interacting with the Proparco delegation, Faruque reportedly maintained garment factories are in Bangladesh were making huge investments to make their production process cleaner and more energy efficient while adding the SMEs however need low-cost funding to integrate environmental sustainability practices.
