The RMG Sustainability Council or RSC, which was formed in 2020, as the legacy of the Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh, but could not start its activities in full-swing owing the COVID-19 pandemic and its fallouts, has promised to become more dynamic now as the pandemic is slowly yet gradually loosening its grip.
Media reports maintained this adding the RSC made this promise at a recent board meeting in capital Dhaka, in which were present all the relevant stakeholders.
Interacting with the media, General Secretary of the Bangladesh Garment and Industrial Workers Federation Babul Akter, who is also the Director of RSC, maintained in the meeting they discussed on how to increase participation of suppliers towards raising funds, settling claims quickly and ensuring payments to the workers rendered jobless due to factory closure on safety grounds, even if BGMEA Vice-President Miran Ali, who is also a Director of the RSC, on his part said, “We discussed how to increase the remediation works and certification to the factories….”
