Archroma has pioneered the concept of using natural wastes and by-products to synthesize dyes to colour textiles. The company has used almond shells, cotton gin wastes, plant by-products and shoots of rosemary, etc. in collaboration with Cotton Incorporated. This technology originally came out of Archroma’s unit in Spain.
Bryan Dill from Archroma US presented the “Earthcolors” technology at the recently held International Conference of the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists in Wilmington, North Carolina, USA. As per the company, cotton denims dyed with cotton waste will be launched in the market soon. These products will be environment- and skin-friendly. Another interesting feature is that consumers will be able to trace the entire supply chain from the origins of the dyes and the natural raw material used in the process.
Mike Tyndall, Vice President – Product Research, Cotton Incorporated stated, “This endeavour expands the boundaries of agriculture and utilizes agricultural resources to make dyes that replace petroleum precursors.”
