
Garment workers have, reportedly, vandalised around 10-12 vehicles besides torching three buses to protest against a road accident on the night of 11 March (Thursday), which, reportedly, claimed the life of an official employed in one of the garment units.
The victim of the accident, which, reportedly, took place on the Baipail-Abdullahpur road in the Narasinghapur area, though could not be identified initially was later recognised as an admin officer employed with the Sharmin Group.
As the news of the incident spread, workers of Sharmin Group and those of adjoining factories, reportedly, took to the street, blocked traffic, vandalised and set vehicles on fire.
Speaking to the media, Inspector (Operations) Abdur Rashid of the Ashulia police station maintained the police reached the accident spot on getting the information, pacified the agitated workers and cleared the road for traffic movement even as members of Civil Defence and the Fire Service doused fire on the vehicles that were ablaze by the workers.
