South India Imported Machine Knitters Association (SIIMKA), has submitted a Detailed Project Report (DPR) to the Central Government for getting grants earmarked under the Public Private Partnership scheme. Now it is all set to get Rs. 15.5 crore worth of facilities for giving value-addition to knitted fabrics, testing and training, very soon. SIIMKA members, through a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), named SIIMKA Knitex Cluster Services Private Limited, have grouped together for this project. SIIMKA President N. Vivekanandan claims that they have identified 1.5 acre of land at Naranapuram hamlet in Palladam taluk for setting up the common facility centre (CFC) for product innovation, testing and training. V. Padmanand, Director of Grant Thorton, is the consultant for preparation of the DPR. The CFC will be equipped with machinery to produce innovative knitted denim products, woollen fabrics with additional thermal properties and quilt fabrics, among others and testing equipment to ensure that knitted fabrics produced were of high quality while trainees will be trained on maintenance of imported knitting machinery so as to reduce breakdown time.
Corrigendum
The article, ‘Middle-level Preferred Suppliers of NCR and their Operational Strategies’ published in AO July 16-31 issue, which talks about three companies, has inadvertently not mentioned the name of IHF (Indian Hand Fabs) when mentioning about GOTS Certification, giving the impression that it has been awarded to Cotton Harbour. The error is regretted.
