For most of the Indian exporters of apparel and home furnishing products, the market has been really tough from the last few months, but as usual there are few companies that are not only expanding during this hard phase, but even expecting 100 per cent growth. Karur-based Karur Export Company, exporting wide range of home furnishing items, has recently invested Rs. 2.5 crore in its new unit. With the expansion, the company has doubled its capacity and is now starting bedding division which was earlier missing in its product basket.
Shibu Mathew and V. Vijayaraju, Partners of the company sharing their business initiative and strategy with Apparel Resources, said, “We have started a new unit in 50,000 sq. metres with all the facilities where few audits have already been completed. Apart from our existing products, the new unit will also produce bedding line which includes bed sheets and quilts mainly. We have now applied for SA 8000 for both our units which we expect to get within two months. We will increase our team also, including designers and other middle-level management positions. With all these initiatives we should have at least 100 per cent growth in current fiscal.”

Though the company is exporting 90 per cent of its products to the Japanese market from the last one decade, both are very confident to work with any kind of buyers across the world. “Working with Japan taught us a lot about quality, product development or any kind of service to buyers,” they added.
On the question of why only Japan, Shibu said that their company is working with Europe also but Japanese buyers kept them busy with reasonable orders. Now to grow further they felt that this is the best time to expand and add new buyers. For this the company is also participating in various international fairs and it is preparing for Maison & Objet, Paris which is to take place on 20-24 January 2017 and few other such events.
