
Indian apparel and footwear retailer, Woodland announced its plans of expanding into the markets of UAE and Russia, where it has already opened warehouses, and now plans to open exclusive stores.
Currently, the outdoor apparel and footwear retailer generates 15 per cent of its turnover from exports, and with the expansion plans in overseas markets in place, it expects the number to go up to 25 per cent.
“The demand for the outdoor category is the same in Russia and the Middle East as it is in India. We will look to gradually expand our presence,” said Harkirat Singh, Managing Director, Woodland. The company has recently opened an office and a warehouse in Moscow and Dubai. The Dubai warehouse of the company will be used to supply goods to other Middle Eastern and North African countries. The retailer has been utilizing the online channel extensively, to expand in Russia, while it has relied on distributors for expanding in UAE.

Besides, Woodland is mulling over opening at least one exclusive store each in Dubai and Moscow by next year, and depending on the response to the stores, it plans to open ten such stores over a period of time.
