Even as the Commerce Ministry recently asked the central bank (Bangladesh Bank) to start refunding customers of e-commerce firms who are not facing any lawsuit – Bangladesh Bank mandated escrow service in June with Commerce Ministry endorsement promising a payback within ten days — the country’s e-commerce customers who were either swindled or are locked now with the payment gateways, seem like would have to wait for some more time to get their money back.
Media reports maintained this adding the concerned Government agencies have underlined they do not have a list suggesting who had been sued and who not even as speaking to the media, e-commerce cell official and Deputy Secretary of the Commerce Ministry Md. Sayed Ali, reportedly, added, “…we will hold a meeting to map out how the customers can be refunded. If we fail, we will ask the High Court on 28 February to guide us.”
It may be mentioned here that the Commerce Ministry, earlier in June this year, amidst allegations of embezzlement and fraud against many e-commerce entities issued a guideline mandating delivery or refund within ten days for advance payments made to buy online.
