The Commerce Ministry of Bangladesh has asked Bangladesh e-commerce company Daraz Bangladesh, which is a sister concern of Chinese retail giant Alibaba Group, to not launch campaigns like 11:11 without prior approval in future even as the e-commerce entity, reportedly, hosted the 11:11 campaign for the fourth time this year.
Media reports maintained this adding the Central Digital Commerce Cell under the ministry has sent a letter in this direction to the MD of Daraz Bangladesh recently even as earlier on 4 November, the Commerce Ministry had, reportedly, issued a show-cause notice to the e-commerce platform for the 11:11 campaign, held on 11 November, even as it, reportedly, expressed concern over disproportionate and overly lucrative discounts offered to the customers by Daraz Bangladesh during the campaign.
Reports further added Daraz Bangladesh hosted the 11:11 campaign for the fourth time in 2021 since its initiation in Bangladesh in 2018 even as according to this year’s data, the company, reportedly, sold products worth Taka170 crore on 11 November between 12am and 10pm.
