Around 530 factories, mostly textile and apparel manufacturing units, could face labour unrest over non-payment of wages and festival allowances before Eid-ul-Azha, as per police.
According to the media reports, the Industrial Police have prepared a list of 530 factories, including 372 RMG and textile units, which could face labour unrest before Asha Eid-ul-Azha, to be celebrated on 21 July.
Further, of the factories, 276 are said to be BGMEA members, 63 members of the BKMEA, 33 registered with the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association, 19 industrial units operating under the Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) and 139 non-apparel factories.
Meanwhile, speaking to the media, BGMEA Senior Vice-President SM Mannan Kochi, reportedly, maintained that some of apparel factories were facing liquidity crisis due to the pandemic even as he underlined that BGMEA teams were monitoring nearly 300 factories closely in which unrest might take place.
We are trying to resolve the problems through discussions with banks and the factory authorities, reportedly, claimed the BGMEA Senior VP.
